Is it possible for me to only render from the first keyframe placed? Because rendering out all the rest would take way too long and would be pretty pointless.

There's no reason for your first keyframe to not be at the start of the video timeline, so there's also no reason to allow rendering to start further in.
You're probably misunderstanding time keyframes and the difference between the top and bottom timelines.
