When I try to open it in the replay viewer the screen stays on "Loading terrain"

Loads just fine for me. Please post the contents of the fml-client-latest.log file inside the log folder inside your .minecraft folder to some pastebin site and link to the post here.

Note that this log will only contain information on the last time you started Minecraft, not any previous runs.

Hmm, nothing out of the ordinary. I tried the same forge and optifine versions as you're using but still can't reproduce it.

Install this mod (drop it into your mods folder). Then, whenever you start Minecraft, another small window will open which has a button labled Create Thread Dump. Some time after Minecraft appears frozen, press that button. It'll generate a thread dump in the text area above the button. Copy that thread dump and pastebin it. It's probably best if you create multiple (~5) of those thread dumps each with a short time (a few seconds or however long you take to pastebin it) in between.

Yeah, that fine, it unfortunately didn't contain anything of use though.
I'm not entirely sure the fml-client-latest.log is complete, try this:
    1. Make sure Minecraft is closed and remove the fml-client-latest.log file
    2. Start Minecraft
    3. Enter the replay and wait for at least 30 seconds
    4. Quit Minecraft (try Alt+F4 before using the task manager) and make sure it is closed
    5. Now open the fml-client-latest.log and pastebin it

I have no clue what could cause this and no idea on how to further debug it. If you notice anything which might be helpful feel free to amend to this thread but for now I'm afraid I can't help you any more with this particular bug.
